Columbia Central 6th Grader Esmeralda Manzo took 1st place honors at the South Suburban Cook County Spelling Bee. The event was held at James Hart School February 3, 2010. Esmeralda and the second and third place finishers will advance to the Suburban Cook County Spelling Bee on February 18. The winner at the Bee wins an all-expense paid trip to Scripps Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. in May.
